About GTLLI
ORIGINS AND MANDATE
GTLLI is a self-funded, not-for-profit organization with an elected, volunteer Board of Directors. The idea of forming a learning organization for adults came from a small group of local residents in 1995. Some had attended courses offered by Living and Learning in Retirement, York University’s Glendon College program for retired adults.
The Glendon group helped us to get started, and also provided our first group of lecturers. Eventually our organization branched out, using lecturers from other universities. Fortunately there seemed to be an abundance of high-quality people willing to teach a two-hour lecture for a reasonable fee. And that good fortune continues to this day. There are no restrictions on membership; however, courses are designed with the more mature learner in mind. GTLLI is not a social club, nor does it offer programs that are activist, political or merely entertaining. GTLLI's mandate is to provide a unique learning experience for its members, not to duplicate the activity of any other group in the region.
