The GTLLI (in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada)
offers lecture courses on a diverse range of topics.
Our intention is to stimulate the mind, intellect and soul
of our members. Learning, understanding and becoming more aware of the
world at large, of our communities and of ourselves is the primary goal of the
Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute.

In recognition of its founding members, Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning
Institute is pleased to present one of Canada’s most experienced and
respected journalists. Tom Clark hosts CTV News Channel’s daily
marquee political program, Power Play with Tom Clark from Monday
to Friday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET.
Tom
Clark has a long history
of covering politics in Canada and has had
a front seat to some of the world’s momentous events. He has covered every
federal election campaign since 1974 and has interviewed nearly every Prime
Minister since Pierre Trudeau. Clark has reported from five war zones and
has also served as CTV’s Bureau Chief in Beijing and Washington.
As a seasoned journalist, Tom Clark knows first-hand, the power
of information. Today, we have more and more facts at our fingertips
with new technologies coming so fast we can hardly keep up; however,
we don’t always feel informed. Tom Clark is ideally placed to give
us a personal perspective on what it’s like to be at the center of
this information revolution.

FOUNDERS' LECTURE BACKGROUND:
After months of complaining about the lack of interesting educational
opportunities in the Georgian Triangle area, a group of seniors sitting
around a picnic table made a breakthrough decision. One of them finally
stood up and said
“Enough talk. Let’s do it. Here’s my $50.” He threw a
bill on the table and “challenged” the others to join him. They did, and
a total of 37 families donated $50 each as seed money to get this new
educational thrust started in our community. That was in 1995 and
that $1850 has paid rich dividends.
That was the beginning of GTLLI. None of those founding families have received any
financial return; they’ve received much more than that – the satisfaction
of starting something of value to themselves and many others like them. Annual
membership in GTLLI now exceeds 400.
In 2004, GTLLI thought it was time to recognize its Founders (see below) by
establishing a Founders' Lecture. Periodically, an exceptional speaker is to
be invited to give an evening Founders' Lecture to members of GTLLI and the
public at large. On April 6, 2004 Stephen Lewis delivered our Inaugural
Founders' Lecture to a Sold-Out crowd at the Gayety Theatre.
